Several suburbs across the city have experienced serious water shortages, raising fears that typhoid will continue to spread in the capital.

Areas affected are Dzivarasekwa 2 and Crowborough where residents have resorted to fetching water from unhygienic water sources.

Recently, there were nearly 300 recorded cases of typhoid. This has been blamed on a clear lack of political will by the City Fathers to provide practical solutions to address the water challenges which the residents are facing.

The Harare Residents Trust have suggested that there be a complete overhaul of the water services infrastructure to keep pace with increased demand. It has also said that Harare City Council should address their billing system, as they are continuing with their estimated billing for water services.

“The City of Harare has continued to pursue their policy of marginalizing residents in their policymaking. Their plans remain private and not for public consumption, yet these plans directly affect the residents,” reads a statement from the trust.
