Under-privileged schools in this area will soon receive a donation of education kits from the Matabeleland South Ideas Development Centre.

The Student Aid Programme aims to empower children in poorly-supplied rural schools by giving them kits comprising exercise books, rulers, mathematical sets, electronic calculators, pencils, pens and computers.

The Centre’s director, Bongani Halimana, said they also planned to donate computers to communal areas in the hope of introducing and improving Information Communication Technology. He urged Zimbabweans across the globe to establish student associations to help empower the next generation back home.

“We will affiliate our organisation with any Student Association - so students must embrace this opportunity and set up associations,” he said.

A key component of the initiative is the need to empower local communities with basic resources, which they will in turn use to develop their areas and make the province a better place to live in. The lack of proper schools, with the few available ones being both under-resourced and under-staffed, is a major problem as are lack of proper health care facilities and a very bad road network.
